This collections includes photographs, financial files, correspondence between lodge secretaries, convention files, published materials, scrapbooks, and ledges pertaining to the daily operations of Alizana. Many of the ledgers include membership enrollment information, including members, their addresses, and lodge information.

The collection documents Barker's anthropological research into folk drama and ritual, the social functions of language, the Pachuco language of Hispanic youths, and Yaqui Indian culture and customs. A 1964 gift to the Southwest Folklore Archives from George C. Barker, Sr. Deaccessioned from the collection in 1993 were approximately 0.2 feet of duplicates and items of a personal nature. In 1996 two 11 x 14 black-and-white photographs by Alfred A. Cohn were transferred to the L. Marguerite Collier Collection, Southwest Folklore Center Manuscripts Collection MS 611. This collection was previously titled SWF 004.

 Abstract:  The Manuel Lito Peña Papers consist of personal files and photographs documenting Peña's work in Tolleson, Arizona in the 1950s with the Community Service Organization (CSO); correspondence reflecting his friendship with César Chávez, farm labor union leader and organizer; legislative speeches made and bills introduced in the Arizona Senate (1966-1996); campaign literature generated when Peña sought re-election as the Democratic representative for District 22; political statements made and additional documents produced explaining Peña's votes on a variety of issues presented for discussion among lawmakers, including the Governor Evan Mecham impeachment hearings in 1988; biographical information; newspaper clippings and printed matter about state and county elections (1980s-1996); correspondence from and to Peña's District 22 constituents (1966-1996); and original photographs portraying Senator Peña's friendships with community activists, leaders, and organizers of the Community Service Organization (CSO) at meetings in California in 1956 and 1957.

 Abstract:  Teatro Libertad was a Chicano street theater group that was founded in 1975 in Tucson, Arizona. Over the course of 10 years, it produced a number of plays and skits, performing them in a variety of places, from cotton fields to local neighborhood centers to international theater festivals. The group worked collectively to write their own material. Their focus was on issues affecting the Mexican American community and the working class. The material included in this collection is comprised primarily of original scripts, photographs, publicity, news articles and organizational documents.
